File compression used to contain two or more files & directories in smaller size rather than the original. Compression means reduce the size of the file.<\/span><\/p>\n

In linux have many types of file compression
\n1. gzip<\/span>
\n2. bzip2
\n3. xz
\n4. zip
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

# du -sh filename\/or\/path <\/span>(This command used to check the size of the file)<\/span><\/p>\n

# yes \u201cstring\u201d > file_name <\/span>(This command used to copy the string into the file)<\/span><\/p>\n

Alert:- immediately press (ctrl + c) after using the yes command. If you not press (ctrl +c) immediately file size increase every second.<\/span><\/p>\n

    # tar xvzf file_name.tar.gz <\/span>(This command used for uncompressing and untar file those extensions have .tar.gz or .tgz)<\/span><\/p>\n

          Zip is used to compress the file or folder so that reduces the size of that package.
          \nzip is available in Linux, Windows, and Unix. Much other software is available that works the same as zip. example:- WinRAR, 7zip etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

          In centos installation :- <\/strong><\/b># yum install zip -y<\/p>\n

          In ubuntu installation :- <\/strong><\/b># apt-get install zip -y<\/p>\n

          Zip current all directory and file<\/b><\/p>\n

          # zip file_name.zip * <\/span>(This command used to zip all current working directory and file)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          Recursively zip all directory file<\/b><\/p>\n

          # zip -r file_name.zip directory\\path<\/span> (This command used to recursively zip all file in a directory)<\/span><\/p>\n

          Exclude some file in zip<\/b><\/p>\n

          # zip -r file_name.zip directory\\path –exclude \u201c*.extension\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

          (This command use to zip all file in the directory but exclude some files using exclude option)<\/span><\/p>\n
